Prior to the start of the tour, an orientation session is held. The equipment provided includes a double kayak (very stable), a paddle and a security vest (different sizes available). This is a guided tour at a leisurely pace. Stops are made to take pictures of the beautiful scenery as well as upon wildlife encounters. FRIDAY, JULY 12TH

  1. Bozhentsi Hike and Bike Adventure (brunch included)

No joking! This active adventure features a “tasty stop”: a trip to the culinary traditions of the Balkan mountain! There is no better place for it than in Bozhentsi – “Bulgaria’s most romantic village”. Here time seems to have remained still in the 19th century! The stop in Bozhentsi is the most prominent one during the whole tour and the time for it has been chosen very carefully to serve as brunch, while the menu is a well-kept secret. (Please let us know in case you follow a specific diet!)

As for the active part of the adventure, it features 8 kilometers of easy walking and 15 kilometers of biking. All participants should possess minimal experience of riding a mountain bike outside paved roads and alleys as well as be comfortable with using hand brakes.

The profile features a few moderate uphill and downhill as well as flat sections, taking you through forests and sunny meadows. A number of extended stops will be made along the way, mostly at panoramic view points and to share important information about the places we visit as well as anecdotes and stories from times passed.

Bring your own mountain bike or rent one (limited availability, advance notice required)! Closed-toe shoes with a thick sole are strongly recommended. Participation is granted upon paying a nominal fee of 22 BGN (or 34 BGN if renting a bike) following a registration by filling out the following form: https://goo.gl/forms/xOAI8YJjKszzVD2Z2

Please note: spaces are limited and assigned on a first come – first serve basis! Within a period of 96 hours you will receive a detailed message at the e-mail address you submitted.

  1. Along The Ancient Roads – easy hike (brunch incuded)

This tour is a great way to experience some impressive panoramic views by means of easy hiking with low to moderate technical difficulty and a total walking distance of just 15 kilometers. It also features a “tasty stop” in Bozhentsi – “Bulgaria’s most romantic village”. Here time seems to have remained still in the 19th century! The stop in Bozhentsi is the most prominent one during the whole tour and the time for it has been chosen very carefully to serve as brunch, while the menu is a well-kept secret. (Please let us know in case you follow a specific diet!)

The panoramic part of the route takes us parallel to the main ridge of the Stara planina mountain. The view to the south is majestic and more likely than not, you will be overwhelmed by those captivating sights: the Botev peak – the highest in the Balkan Mountain, the Triglav massif – with the second highest peak – Golyam Kademlia, the Uzana area with the Ispolin (“giant”) peak, the prominent peaks of Shipka with its Monument of Liberty and Buzludzha with the UFO-like structure on top of the mountain crest, etc. Later on you will find yourself walking on an ancient Roman road which is believed to have existed for more than 1500 years. At this place legends sound real and anecdotes sound like true stories.

Normal physical shape is a prerequisite (no specific requirements). Closed-toe shoes are strongly recommended. Participation is granted upon paying a nominal fee of 22 BGN following a registration by filling out the following form: https://goo.gl/forms/roEdu3WBDyHmSlDx2

SATURDAY, JULY 13TH

  1. “UltraHike (43+ km)

For the very first time in the history of Tryavna Ultra!

A fast-paced non-competition “ultra” hike will be held on the main day of the event: Saturday, July 13th. It will cover a distance of approximately 43.5 kilometers with a total ascent (D+) of over 1.500 meters

This is both a high physical and a mental challenge and requires the participants to be in excellent shape and to possess prior experience in long distance hiking over varied terrain.

The required equipment includes: water container (1.5 liters and more), closed-toe shoes with a thick sole, long trousers or leggings, bandage(s), food with the energy equivalent of at least one full meal.

A valid mountain rescue insurance is inherent to participation in this event too. Please contact the organizer for further details.

This “ultra” hike follows the previous years’ renowned concept of first transferring (train or bus) to the hike’s starting point and then hiking the whole distance back to Tryavna. The hike’s finish merges with the finish of the Ultramarathon, hence the extra touch of being part of this great event! Differently from previous years though, the “ultra” hike covers much longer distance and is limited to experienced hikers only. Each participant will receive a souvenir diploma upon completing the hike successfully.

Excellent physical shape is a prerequisite. Participation is granted upon paying a nominal fee of 23 BGN following a registration by filling out the following form: https://goo.gl/forms/zw7cXKmXZurMg5ZE2

Please note: spaces are limited and assigned on a first come – first serve basis! Within a period of 96 hours you will receive a detailed message at the e-mail address you submitted.

In case you don’t receive a message within this period, please don’t hesitate to send us a note at travel.plus@abv.bg

Schedule: 6:00am to 9:00pm on Saturday, July 13th

  1. Two Day Hike (Saturday – Sunday)

“The Best of The Balkan Mountain – this is the motto of this elaborate two day hike. We are thrilled to confirm it for the first time in the history of Tryavna Ultra – due to popular demand and with just a limited number of participants.

There is an overnight involved which will be in a modern style mountain hut or a guest house. A good standard is guaranteed as well as hot water showers and a sufficient number of sanitary facilities. Rooms are equipped with two to a maximum of four beds. Rooms will be assigned based on the participants’ room-mate requests and upon availability.

Drop bag policy is put in place and highly recommended: a small-size drop bag with a set of clothes, slippers, toiletries, etc. can be submitted on Friday evening and will be transported by the organizer. (Submitting a drop bag on Saturday morning may delay the start of the whole tour and is possible only in very limited instances).

This hike has a total length of 50 – 52 kilometers (over the two days). It does however feature a low technical difficulty and easy to moderate ascents. A number of extended stops will be made along the way, mostly at panoramic view points and within the limits of protected territories. These are home to plant species of major biological significance, mostly within the boundaries of Bulgarka Nature Park!

The approximate hiking time (aggregate walking) is 7.5 hrs on Saturday (day 1) and 5.5 hrs on Sunday (day 2), at a moderate pace. (There is a possibility to opt for a reduced aggregate walking time of 5.5 hrs on Saturday and 4.5 hrs on Sunday).

In the course of two days, this hike will allow to “feel” the Balkan Mountain at its fullest, with a touch of “timelessness” and a feeling to be somewhere far and remote. Still, there is more to it: the adventure will finish in the beautiful town of Tryavna and eventually merge into the finish of the Ultramarathon, hence the extra touch of being part of this great event!

Participants are expected to bring some food and water. Good physical shape is a prerequisite. Closed-toe shoes with a thick sole, long trousers or leggings as well as a bandage are strongly recommended.

Participation is granted upon paying a nominal fee of 73 BGN following a registration by filling out the following form: https://goo.gl/forms/AzHOPZFypILrHJBn2

This fee includes accommodation for one night, dinner on day 1, as well as breakfast and a light lunch on day 2. (Breakfast and lunch on day 1 are not included and there are no restaurants/huts along the way, so please bring your own food and drink!) The fee includes further the participants’ transportation to the hike’s starting point as well as the transportation of a drop-bag (as per description) and guidance.

Please note: spaces are limited and assigned on a first come – first serve basis! Within a period of 96 hours you will receive a detailed message at the e-mail address you submitted.

In case you don’t receive a message within this period, please don’t hesitate to send us a note at travel.plus@abv.bg

Schedule: 6:00am on Saturday, July 13th to 3:00pm on Sunday, July 14th

  1. Classic Hike (27 km)

This full-day non-competition hike is, to a certain extent, related to the more challenging “ultra” hike. It follows some of the ultra’s route to interesting and picturesque mountain venues but has a total length of “just”27 kilometers.

The participants will first transfer (train or bus) to the hike’s starting point and then hike for approximately 25 kilometers. Another transfer will bring them close to Tryavna while the last 2 kilometers will be once again covered on foot. The hike will eventually merge into the finish of the Ultramarathon, hence the extra touch of being part of this great event!

Differently from theultrahike, the classical one is not a fast-paced hike. A number of extended stops will be made along the way, mostly at panoramic view points and within the limits of protected territories. These are home to plant species of major biological significance, mostly within the boundaries of Bulgarka Nature Park!

Participants are expected to bring some food and water. Very good physical shape is a prerequisite. Closed-toe shoes with a thick sole, long trousers or leggings as well as a bandage are strongly recommended. Participation is granted upon paying a nominal fee of 19 BGN following a registration by filling out the following form: https://goo.gl/forms/xdbj68pRQ6YtbsMn2

Please note: spaces are limited and assigned on a first come – first serve basis! Within a period of 96 hours you will receive a detailed message at the e-mail address you submitted.

Schedule: 6:00am to 6:00pm on Saturday, July 13th

SUNDAY, JULY 14TH

  1. Easy Triathlon

Will you dare take the challenge?! This easy non-competition triathlon requires prior experience in three different sports: swimming (1 kilometer), biking (20 kilometers) and hiking (12 kilometers). The concept certainly makes no secret of its bond to the Ultramarathon event: apart from being a challenge (and a rather unusual one!), it has the center of Tryavna both as its starting and its finishing point. Each participant will receive a souvenir diploma upon completing the triathlon successfully.

Not to forget the culinary touch of the experience: the so called “tasty stop”! (Please let us know in case you follow a specific diet!)

The swimming part will be held in an open-air Olympic size swimming pool. To facilitate the participation, drop bag policy is put in place and highly recommended: a small-size drop bag (swimming suit, towel) can be submitted on Saturday evening and will be transported by the organizer.

Bring your own mountain bike or rent one (limited availability, advance notice required)! All participants should possess minimal experience of riding a mountain bike outside paved roads and alleys as well as be comfortable with using hand brakes. Closed-toe shoes with a thick sole are strongly recommended. Participation is granted upon paying a nominal fee of 26 BGN (or 38 BGN if renting a bike) following a registration by filling out the following form: https://goo.gl/forms/D52PaHWkJdAnaYSe2

Please note: spaces are limited and assigned on a first come – first serve basis! Within a period of 96 hours you will receive a detailed message at the e-mail address you submitted.

A number of extended stops will be made along the way, mostly at panoramic view points and to share important information about the places we visit. 1. “Little Ultra” 23 km Hike (brunch included)

“Little Ultra” covers the remarkable distance of 23 kilometers and yet its profile has low to moderate technical difficulty. The concept certainly makes no secret of its bond to the Ultramarathon event: with the center of Tryavna as its final destination and its length of 23 kilometers corresponding to the shortest distance in the competition program the previous day.

“Little Ultra” however is a non-competition event featuring a completely different route. It intends to show little-known areas in the Balkan Mountain with a number of beautiful panoramic views. Some minimal walking over paved roads may be necessary as well as the initial transfer to the hike’s starting point (train or bus). Not to forget the culinary touch of the experience: the so called “tasty stop”! The time for it has been chosen very carefully to serve as brunch, while the menu is a well-kept secret. (Please let us know in case you follow a specific diet!)

The tour is planned to finish in Tryavna around 2:00pm.

Good physical shape is a prerequisite. Closed-toe shoes with a thick sole, long trousers or leggings as well as a bandage are strongly recommended.
